Beautiful But Belated Bean Blog

This is long in coming, but due to the excellent translation skills of the Dutchman (a.k.a. the Germanic Rosetta Stone) - we've cracked this recipe! So good with the Beef in Red Coconut Sauce - similar ingredients, but much different taste.

*Indonesian Beans*
- 12 oz. green beans
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 big onion (chopped)
- 1 stalk of lemongrass
- 1 clove garlic, pressed
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon sambal oelek or hot chili sauce/paste
- 8 oz. coconut milk
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- salt to taste

1. Cut beans in 2" pieces
2. Fry onions in some oil in a frying pan until they're soft (not carmelized)
3. Add pressed garlic and beans and keep stir frying for 2 minutes
4. Add sambal, ginger, brown sugar, lemongrass stalk, and bay leaf; stir fry a bit
5. Add coconut milk and about 3 oz. water
6. Simmer for 8-10 minutes; salt to taste
7. Before serving, remove the lemongrass and bay leaf - enjoy!
