So, all of my anti-germ mo-jo has failed me. All of my pseudo-voo-doo spells and protective chalk circles were for naught. Apparently when the Dutchman and I married, we pledged to share love, bathtowels, a bank account, and....nasty flu cooties!

Ugh. I had to cancel classes yesterday (which I felt really bad about) and I'm self-medicating with leftover antibiotics because this is becoming a sinus infection and I can't cancel classes tomorrow. The Dutchman has gotten all better of course and now he has to nurse me back to health - turn about's fair play.

Thanks to everyone for their history book advice!

Oh, no! Get well soon! I'll be thinking of you as I continue dosing myself with zinc and vitamin C (but I have a cold, not a flu, and that's a whole different animal).

What's the difference between a cold and the flu? Is it the same bug, but one is just worse than the other? What would you say separates a cold from the flu??

*sniff sniff*!

Awww, pampering is essential. Hope you get better soon!

As for the cold/flu thing.
My experience is that a cold heralds its arrival, and is local: you wake up one morning with a scratchy throat, next day you're sneezy, then you've got a cough. It may get worse, but it doesn't go much further. Just an upper respiratory thing.
A flu on the other hand ambushes you, much in the same way an invisible oncoming train might ambush you. You go to bed feeling like the bee's knees, and you wake up with cold symptoms plus things like all-over muscle aches, a fever that makes it feel like your eyeballs are boiling, headache, exhaustion, digestive tract "issues," etc. It's truly a vile experience.

May I say one thing? please, please, PLEASE do not quit antibiotics halfway through. You may get lucky for a few times, and really have the bacteria on the run when you decide to stop taking the pills. But there's the possibility that one time you'll just kill off all the weak bacteria and breed yourself a super-bug. Which would suck. A lot.

Call the doctor if you need doctoring! It's too cold for golf, anyway.

Thanks for all the well wishes - I do feel a ton better today - still not 100%, but able to go out and teach the kiddos. Perhaps I only caught a cold, or just the tail end of the flu.

Heo, thanks for you description of both maladies and the warning about the antibiotics - ordinarily I *always* take the full dose, but in the case of the left over ones, I had been prescribed a rather heavy dose for something that turned out to not be an infection at all. So my doctor advised me to stop taking them because there was no "bad bug" in my body to kill. I do agree, though, that I should go to a doctor rather than just take the rest of them - I should confirm that this is a sinus infection. So, I've already made myself an appointment for tomorrow!

But today at least I feel better and can teach my classes (from 3:30-10pm) - ugh!
